This weekend I pulled on the warmest clothes I could find, climbed on a snowmobile and headed out onto Limerick Lake to take photos of some of our hardy Canadians who embrace the elements and pursue the pastime of ice fishing. It was the first time I had taken a close look at what actually happens out there on the ice in those little huts and was surprised at the technology and comforts they enjoyed. Their patience and resilience were commendable – and the bonding with family, friends and...dogs heartwarming. By the end of the shoot my fingers were frozen from holding the camera but the fishermen appeared warm and cozy, content to spend the day on the icy plains. Yet another example of how our great outdoors can be a year-round playground.
